It’s sad to say that animal abuse is a growing problem in the United States. One recent article said that in the economic downturn, more and more pets were being abandoned, and other statistics show that in times of economic stress, abuse of all kinds-pets, children, spouses, and elders-increases measurably. Rather like small children, pets thrive on affection, structure, and positive interaction, yet in too many circumstances, this isn’t what they’re getting at all.

When our kids get their hands on a puppy or a kitten, when the whining and begging starts (“pleeeease? I’ll take care of it, I’ll feed it and walk it, you won’t have to do anything”), we do, of course, have to consider whether our family has the time and resources to give this small pet its best chance at a good, rewarding life. But before you groan at the prospect of vet bills and chewed-up slippers, think of all the things that our children can learn from taking care of pets. Being patiently taught how to care for a pet can foster the kind of empathy and responsibility in a child that can prevent animal abuse from happening in the future.

Tell your children about animal abuse. Children have deeply good hearts; they will be appalled to hear how some people treat animals. Remind them that some people get bored with their pets and neglect them, or that they get angry and hurt them. Tell them that those actions are not acceptable, and that if you bring a pet into your home, it will not be treated like that—even when its caretakers get bored or angry.

Remind your children that baby animals grow up. A cute, cuddly puppy or kitten will be a full-grown dog or cat in about a year. It will still be lovable and affectionate, but it won’t be tiny, and it won’t be as cute as it was when you couldn’t resist it. A commitment to a pet is a commitment for the pet’s entire life, not only when they’re small and cute, but also when they’re older. Getting tired of an older dog or cat is no excuse to neglect or mistreat it.

Make it clear that the less pleasant duties will be shared by all. Yes, this means housebreaking duties. Small kittens still need to learn about the litter box, and puppies are notoriously prone to accidents. If a child isn’t willing to do the icky stuff like clean the litter box and pick up the accidents, they are not doing their duty by their pet. Remind them that they wore diapers when they were little, but animals don’t get to do that.

Show them how their feelings are like the pet’s feelings. Even small children can understand the connections between their experience and their pet’s experience. How would your children feel if you simply “forgot” to make dinner one evening? Or if you kicked them out of the way instead of asking them politely to move? Or if you never had time to cuddle or play with them? The idea that their caregiver, the one who is supposed to love them best, would do any of those things is unthinkable, but they can grasp that they are the caregivers and love-givers to their pet, and should no more do those things to an animal than a parent would do them to a child.

Taking advantage of these simple teaching opportunities can develop empathy, kindness, and responsibility in children. The more children who develop these important qualities, the better chance we have of eradicating animal abuse for all generations.

A properly fitted car seat is essential for keeping your baby or toddler safe while travelling, but buying one for the first time can seem complicated. This article gives a brief overview of what you\'ll need to know.

Becoming a parent for the first time involves a huge amount of learning, as there are hundreds of things involved which childless people will have had no reason to come across before, nor had any incentive to learn about. When you first learn of the impending new arrival, your thoughts will probably be taken up with decorating and equipping a nursery, buying clothes, bottles, and much more, but many people don’t think of a baby car seat until later on in the pregnancy. It’s very important to make sure you know what to look for in a seat, as after all, you’ll need one on your baby’s very first journey, from the hospital back to home.

For this first journey, you’ll need a seat which faces towards the rear of your vehicle. This provides the best protection in the event of an impact for an infant who is unable yet to support the weight of their own head. The seat will be nicely reclined backwards, providing a safe and comfortable coccoon for your baby.

It’s important to choose a rear-facing seat which is sturdy and dependable, yet light to carry. Young babies sleep a little and often, and the last thing you want to do after finally getting your child to sleep in a car journey is to wake them by removing them from their warm and cosy seat. Having an easily detachable model which is light to carry means you can ferry your baby from car to house with as little disturbance as possible.

These rear facing seats are only suitable for younger infants. Once they’ve grown to weigh around 20 pounds, or the top of their head is nearing the upper edge of the seat and thus no longer protected properly, you’ll need to move to a forward facing seat.

These seats are much more upright, but better models can be adjusted to provide a more horizontal position to help your toddler sleep during longer journeys. Because of the upright position, it’s essential that your child is able to sit up on their own before using this kind of seat. Forward facing seats are built to last for a fair few years, and most will be good until your child reaches the age of 4 or 6.

Before we finish, there are two extremely important things to bear in mind when buying a car seat.

Firstly, you should be very careful when buying one that isn’t brand new. Although it might seem like an economy to get a second hand seat, there’s no way of knowing for sure its history. It may have been involved in an accident at some point in the past, resulting in weaknessess that may not be visible to the naked eye. These weaknesses could endanger your baby even in a minor accident. You should only buy a used seat when you can be absolutely sure of the history – such as when buying off close friends or family.

Finally, baby car seats shouldn’t be fitted in front seats where an airbag is fitted. In an accident, the inflation of the airbag could cause serious injury or suffocation to a child, so always fit car seats in the rear of the vehicle in this case.

Are you prepared to alter your whole life routine? If you are getting ready to welcome a new baby you better be ready for some major changes!

Are you prepared to alter your whole life routine? If you are getting ready to welcome a new baby you better be ready for some major changes! Your daily routine will experience some big adjustments. You will discover anything that brings even a bit of sanity into your day will be greatly appreciated. One such item is a well designed diaper changing table.

Many new parents find that owning a changing table for baby is one of those necessary items that help maintain a friendly environment for the baby and for the parents as well. A combination changing table dresser that has multiple purposes is an especially enjoyed article of furniture. Its most obvious purpose of course is to be of assistance in changing your baby’s diaper but it doesn’t stop there.

A combination changing table is really a bureau with a top surface designed to change baby’s diaper and also has dresser drawers underneath that provide needed storage for all of the items you need to keep handy. A removable changing pad can be stored on top and is held in place by rails which also help cradle the baby while he or she is being changed. Many parents wonder how they could get along without a changing table of this type.

A Changing Table With Storage Provides Convenience

One of the main reasons changing tables are so popular is the large storage the provide. The height of the table surface is also a factor for their popularity. You don’t have to look around for a clear spot in an area that might otherwise be dirty to lay your baby down to be changed. It is convenenient, always there and ready. And it keeps all of the needed items at your finger tips. You can store extra clean diapers, tissues, powder, lotions and everything conveniently close. You know where everyhing is and how much you have on hand. You will find that you and your baby do not out grow a changing table. When your infant is poty trained, the table can serve as a bureau in your child’s bedroom.

A Decorative Piece Of Furniture

Some of the early baby diaper changing tables were more functional than decorative. Today these tables come in all types of wood – painted, stained, white, black, decorated, beautiful hardwoods – to mix or match with your existing furniture. You can keep them where they are convenient for you to use and not worry about sticking them off in a corner somewhere. Of course, if you prefer them in a corner, you can buy specially designed corner baby diaper changing tables. If you want an upscale, boutique piece of furniture for a changing table, they are available made by any of several top manufacturers.

Keep in mind that the main purpose of any baby diaper changing station is to assist the parent in changing a diaper while keeping the baby safe and comfortable. Check out any table before you buy it to be sure that it is sturdy and safe. Stay

An important part of parenting toddlers is ensuring that they have the right playthings. Learn what to look for when buying toys for tots.

Before educational products like Baby Einstein or Seventh Generation baby-safe cleaners, toys and baby products came in just a few shapes and sizes. But today, manufacturers have figured out that it’s cool baby gear that people want. The toy selection for toddlers and babies is really quite mind boggling.

From electronic games to educational and interactive plush toys, if you want something it’s bound to be made somewhere. But you want to avoid every parent’s dread – the “toy safety recall”. And with more and more baby toys flooding online baby shop shelves, you have to be careful when choosing a baby toy for your kiddo.

Research shows that babies’ brains develop exponentially in the 2 and 5 year old range. The toys these babies play with can have a lasting impact on their social development and curiosity with the world around them.

3 Things You MUST Consider Before Buying Baby or Toddler Toys:

1. Educational Value

Since babies and toddler brains are constantly absorbing information at a massive rate, it is important to engage these youngsters and challenge their growing minds. Some parents fear they will confuse their baby or toddler if they provide too much challenge. This is not true – the more challenging, the better. Of course you don’t want to frustrate your child, but well introduced educational toys can spur a lifetime of learning and well-adjusted behavior. The harder you make their little brains work now, the more brain connections will form. These connections can directly influence optimum brain capacity for the rest of the child’s life. Of course, remember to choose age-appropriate toys. A toy meant for a 6 year old is certainly not going to be much fun or benefit the development of a 2 year old. And the most important thing is to make sure your child ENJOYS his or her toy, rather than getting frustrated and losing interest from the beginning.

2. Safety Concerns

Babies and toddlers explore their world in so many ways. One minute they are crying and unhappy, the next moment they are giggling and putting everything in their mouth. Toddlers and babies love exploring their world with all their senses, and taste is certainly one of their favorite means of exploration. Because of this, you should pay careful attention to the size of the toys you buy and the materials made from it. Lead used to be used in almost all toys and due to health concerns, is now banned. If you have old toys passed down to you, you can buy a lead testing kit online to see if it is a hazard. But with new toys, we go back to the common-sense practice: Check the age level appropriate for a toy. Small parts on toys are extremely dangerous and present a choking danger for babies and toddlers. Fortunately, all major toy manufactures state very clearly which age groups toys are intended for. They also tell consumers if there are any parts on the toy that could become choking hazards to young children. Also, WebMD suggests parents not purchase electronic toys for children under 8. That popular baby electronic device? Probably not such a good idea. Electricity and babies aren’t a safe mix at all.

3. Baby Personality Development

The old method of “boys play with GI Joes and girls play with dolls” is as ancient as the people still spewing out this nonsense. To ensure that your child develops a well-rounded, well-adjusted personality, encourage him or her to play with a wide variety of toys. If it makes your baby happy, there is no sense in applying stringent gender roles which will only hamper your baby’s personality development. If you only buy toy guns for your boy and dress-up kits for your girl, they will quickly learn that this is what is expected of them and cause some strange conflicts later in life. Problems with social skills, self-esteem, and self-identity are known issues stemming from parent’s over zealousness to adjust their child to what they think their child should be. Keep and open mind and just remember, you can learn a lot about what makes a baby happy because the only thing they do more than cry is giggle and smile.

In conclusion, just be sure to provide toys for two year olds that will challenge their brain, are safe, and will help develop healthy and positive personalities.

The necessity of getting baby furniture can become a knotty problem for a young family. Thus many parents who face a task of choosing the right baby furniture and it make them nervous. But it is too early to panic. The idea of getting a used piece of furniture shouldn’t make you worried. Hand-me-down furniture can become a great way out, because cheap baby furniture can still be attractive, good quality and safe for your little one.

Good news about the just born baby can be followed by the necessity of buying baby furniture and the last can create some panic. It is general knowledge that baby furniture is not a low price thing and it can indeed turn out to be very expensive. This can make the family budget suffer losses. The idea of getting baby furniture can be associated with credits and expenses, this can make you feel nervous but there are always two ways out.

The two ways out
We know that some baby furniture pieces are needed from the first moments of the baby’s life, especially such as a baby crib. You can purchase the necessary baby furniture gradually with the limits of the possible. Some of the other baby furniture you can buy later in order not to break your bank account.

You also can save money getting cheap baby furniture for your baby bedroom. Welcome news is that cheap baby furniture can be quiet attractive and safe for your little one.

Crib
Parents dream of buying a basketlike bed – bassinet for their baby but unfortunately it is very expensive and not every mom can afford to have it. In this case you can purchase a crib for your little one and it will be a nice place for your baby to sleep. Also there are cribs which can be changed from a crib into a bed safe for a toddler and then converted to a bed for a school child. This is a good way to save money in the long run. Buying a used crib shouldn’t make you worry, the only detail you have to be sure about the crib is that all the parts are working properly and this piece of furniture is not damaged.

Chest of drawers or a wardrobe
Chest of drawers is something which is not an emergency thing but it is very convenient for storing baby clothes and other things. Also you can get a whole wardrobe at once, children grow fast and soon a chest of drawers might not accommodate all the things your child owns. Do not be afraid to buy used furniture, especially if it looks quite new and fresh, some scratches can be easily painted. If all the parts are working it says that this piece of furniture is very dependable and reliable. It has stood the test and still is working properly. Moreover it is possible to afford hand-me-down furniture. It possesses three advantages: good looking, dependable and cheap.

Changing Table
The same thing you can do with a changing table if you really decided you have to have it for your baby. Having a changing table is very handy and convenient but it is usually used for a baby during the first two years. Later there is no much need of them so they might turn into rubbish or you can sell it at a reasonable price if it looks worthy the money you charge for it. There is alternative to it. You can be the one who will buy a used changing table.

We have all your nursery needs. Any baby room furniture set is available. Our dressers, changing tables and other pieces of baby furniture sets don't leave much to be desired. The harmony of high quality, design and price is what we have.
